When you study a city, say Canada, you have to look at its history to get to know how it came to be. The same goes with games such as Roblox. To know why it’s popular, we have to know its history.
1989 was the year when David Baszucki founded Knowledge Revolution, which was a company that focused on educational physics as well as mechanical simulation software. In his company, he was able to write a simulator referred to as Interactive Physics. Knowledge Revolution, however, was sold for $20 million in 1999 by MSC Software. Baszucki worked there as VP, but then he left after five years to create Roblox with Erik Cassel. Later on, other employees from MSC Software joined them.
On December 2, 2003, the creators used GoBlocks.com, then after 10 days, the site was renamed DynaBlocks, and it was called so until January 30, 2004.
In 2005, the site was renamed Roblox because DynaBlocks seemed difficult to recall. In 2006, the site came out of beta and was officially introduced.
Roblox also had a currency called Roblox points, which could be acquired by players though daily log-ins or playing mini-games. In 2006, Roblox added badges. And in 2007, it became compliant with COPPA, and added a safe chat mode which allows limited players under 13 years of age to communicate through chat. In 2016, a text filtering feature utilizing the Community Sift service took the place of the safe chat menu. This allowed players under 13 years old to make content on the site and use messages in games which weren’t predefined.
In 2007, Roblox points bade goodbye and Robux said hello to users. A new currency called Tickets or Tix was also introduced that same year, but was discontinued in 2016 to eliminate confusion in new and experienced players.

Roblox wasn’t available for mobile until December 11, 2012.
THE UNFORTUNATE EVENT
In 2012, the website of Roblox was jeopardized. Malicious players lowered the cost of some goods, stole and awarded Robux from and to players, and utilized site-wide notices to display messages that were offensive. Because of this, the site became offline for a short time and Roblox staff began reverting the changes.
DEATH OF CO-FOUNDER
In 2013, shocking news circulated regarding the death of co-founder Erik Cassel, after his battle with cancer. It was a tragic event for the team and the players.
DEVELOPER EXCHANGE PROGRAM
On October 1, 2013, the program was introduced. It enabled developers with Outrageous Builders Club membership to obtain money through swapping Robux. This is probably one of the reasons why the game is still popular up to this day.
